Prevention is the best solution
Gum disease affects 80 per cent of adults and more than half of all teenagers to varying degrees. Caused by toxins from bacteria in dental plaque and calculus, it cannot be cured, only controlled and is exacerbated by illness or stress.
Early signs include sensitivity, bleeding gums, bad breath or bad tastes. It leads to tooth loss and is linked to heart disease, bacterial lung infections, premature births and strokes. Many people are unaware they have it. Smokers, those with diabetes and people who are overweight or obese are most at risk.
Once existing disease has been controlled and healing has commenced then regular visits are recommended to prevent its return. Many of our patients choose to cover their costs by enrolling on our Waterside Dental Care Plan.
Our aim is to help our patients achieve a healthy mouth to allow them to keep their natural teeth and prolong the life of any restorations. The result? The ability to eat comfortably and smile with confidence.
